The Shopkeeper's Wisdom

Go back in time by 100 years, back then the local shop keeper knew everything that there was to know about their customers. Where they lived, what they liked, what they disliked, their financial situation etc. This wasn’t seen as intrusive, it was just a human connection.

All of this knowledge was then used to ensure that their shop stocked the things that the proprietor knew their customers wanted . People were offered goods and services that the shop keeper knew they were likely to want, need and afford. This wasn't a transaction or an upsell or a cross sell, there wasn’t friction or conversion or any of those other MBA terms. It was simple commerce - provide people with what they want, when they want it and at a price that they can afford, they are likely to thank you for doing so.
